Lewiston Girls Golf Preview

The Lewiston Girls Golf team has started practice with five members on the team. The squad will be led by Seniors, Cyndie Gaddy and Nickole Kaufman. The Juniors on the team are Jessica Stake and Amy Weyers. Sophomore Katie Wiemers rounds out the team. The first meet for the team will be August 25 at the Syracuse Invitational. With less than 2 weeks to practice I am looking for some improvement throughout the year. " I feel that Cyndie, Nickole and Jessica have a good chance at medaling at most of the meets this year and with some work, Amy will be a fine 4th golfer for us."

Coaches Comments from fall meets:

Syracuse Invitational Monday, August 25
"We played well for the first meet of the year. I gave the girls a goal of breaking 500 and they beat it by 5 strokes. There is still a lot of improvement to go. But the girls are working hard at trying to stay out of trouble and get better with their short game."
Tri-County Invitational September 2
"The girls improved from last week in the shortened Tri County Invitational. The meet was shortened to 9 hole event because of lightning and rain in the morning. Cyndie Gaddy was 3 shots from medaling and Jessica Stake played well after a rocky start."
Tecumseh Invitational September 15
"We played our best golf of the year in this tournament.  Jessica Stake played very well to earn a 12th place medal.  In only our second tournament of 18 holes this year, we scored our best.  We still need to get a little better on our chipping and putting.  Cyndie Gaddy and Amy Weyers played very well and were just out of medal contention."
HTR-SE Invitational September 19
"The girls improved on their team score again today by 2 strokes.  Jessica Stake played very well again and earned a 14th place medal with a score of 105.  Again, a few strokes were lost around the greens and is still an area we need to work on before Districts."
Auburn Invitational September 26
"We slipped a little today, but the course was not in very good shape.  Auburn CC has lost their fairways and that made for some difficult playing conditions.  Jessica Stake earned a 10th place medal with a 110.  Nickole Kaufman made a great comeback after a bad start on the front nine.  The first place playoff was exciting as the girl from Maryville chipped in for eagle on the par 4 first hole to win the tournament.  We are going to have to play a lot better next week at Districts.  The district meet has been moved from Auburn CC to Kirkman's Lakeview GC in Humboldt because of the poor conditions in Auburn."
District Tournament October 3
"We played well and Jessica Stake was close to qualifying for state, but droped a few shots at the wrong time.  Seniors Cyndie Gaddy and Nickole Kaufman played very good in their last meet.  Amy Weyers played the second nine with an injured shoulder and did not shoot her best round.  All in all, the girls improved on their game during the season and learned a lot.  I know that they will be better for next season."
